A pronged, claw mount setting on a whole other scale......

Do you remember the simple claw setting we made for a faceted stone? I always say to my students that it could transfer nicely into other shapes and sizes of stone. Well here is one of my talented students who took me quite literally...word for word! She learned how to make the mount with me on a small scale, then used the making skills she's learned in the Large-Scale Metals workshop and taught to her by those specialist staff. 

A huge welded steel ring and a massive claw mount has been constructed especially to house the chunk of Plymouth Limestone, which was a material used to build the Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery (for which this project was designed) and many of the City's grandest buildings, such as the Breakwater in Plymouth Sound and the Royal William Victual Yard. I'm sure that this student will go a long way with such drive and ambition!
